Tactics
Two managers with identical squads can get completely different results depending on how they set up. Tactics are where your brain matters more than your wallet. This is the part of MFL where you express your footballing identity.
Account-wide tactics. If you manage multiple clubs, you can copy a tactical setup across all of them. Set it up once and replicate it instead of rebuilding formations, instructions, and match plans from scratch for every team. You'll still want to tweak things based on each squad's strengths, but starting from a proven template saves serious time.
Formation
Your formation determines how your 10 outfield players line up on the pitch. This is the foundation of everything else. Your instructions, your player roles, and your match plans all flow from the shape you choose.
Pick a formation that fits your players, not the other way around. Got two elite wingers and a target man? Playing a narrow diamond is fighting against your own squad.
Captain Selection
Every team needs a captain. Hit the "C" button on any player in your starting XI to give them the armband.
This is not just cosmetic. Your captain provides stat boosts to every player in the starting lineup, and the boost depends on the captain's position:
Forward
+2 SHO, +1 PAC
Midfielder
+2 PAS, +1 DRI
Defender
+2 DEF, +1 PHY
Goalkeeper
+2 PHY, +1 DEF
Choose wisely. The right captain can lift your entire team's performance.
Team Instructions
This is where you set the overall playing style for your club. Every instruction has tradeoffs, so experiment and find what works for your squad.

How spread your attackers play
Directness

Player Instructions
While team instructions set the overall style, player instructions let you fine-tune individual tendencies. Every player in your lineup can have their own set of instructions. Each can be set to "Use Team" to follow the team instruction, or overridden individually.

Match Plans
Since you cannot make changes during a match, match plans are your voice on the sideline. They let you set automatic tactical changes that trigger based on in-game conditions.
How They Work
Create a scenario and name it (e.g., "Chase Mode", "Protect Lead")
Set conditions using time and/or match situation
Define changes to your team instructions
Activate it. You can have up to 5 active scenarios at a time (and save up to 10 total)
When conditions are met, the scenario triggers automatically at the next stoppage. It shows up in the match feed alongside goals and other events.
Conditions
Time-based: Anytime, After minute 15, 30, 45, 60, or 75
Match situation: All situations, Even score, Leading by 1+/2+/3+, Trailing by 1+/2+/3+
Combine conditions with AND/OR logic for more specific triggers.
Examples
Chase Mode
Trailing 1+, After 60'
More attacking width, more long shots
Park the Bus
Leading 2+, After 75'
Low defensive line, less pressing
Early Press
Anytime, First half
High press, high line
The more scenarios you prepare for, the better equipped you are. A well-prepared manager has plans for going behind, protecting a lead, and dealing with different match situations. All set up before kickoff.
